Below are the 1098-T frequently asked questions. If you do not find the answer you need, you can email our office at [click-for-email].
This form is intended to assist you, or your parents, in the preparation of your federal income tax return to see if you are eligible for two tax credits: the American Opportunity Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit. Your accountant, tax preparer, or the Internal Revenue Service can best advise you in the utilization of this form when preparing your taxes. The 1098-T form is only informational; none of the amounts reported are expected to be used as part of a ‘plug and play’ entry.
Students must have a valid SSN/ITIN to receive a 1098-T. Receipt of a 1098-T form does not establish eligibility for certain educational tax credits. Similarly, students who do not receive a 1098-T because they do not meet the IRS’ reporting criteria should not automatically assume they are ineligible for these tax credits. Students should consult a tax advisor to determine eligibility.
If you opted for electronic delivery, you will receive an email notification to your Temple email address when the 1098-T is available. If you do not sign-up for electronic delivery, which is strongly encouraged, your 1098-T will be mailed to your permanent address.

Charges for TUJ students are not posted in the Temple main campus students and thus, a 1098-T will not be generated and TUJ is not able to provide students with the 1098-T form. TUJ tuition and fees are taxed in Japan, and TUJ is not connected to the U.S. system. TUJ students should request a payment history for tax purposes from the TUJ bursar’s office at [click-for-email].
